Send a message the DNC can’t ignore: We need a presidential debate on the climate crisis.

Dear NRDC Action Fund Activist,

Big news: After initially rejecting the idea, the Democratic National Committee is considering a dedicated presidential debate about climate change for the first time ever.

The DNC will vote later this week on whether to hold this urgently-needed climate debate. This is an unprecedented opportunity to make climate change the #1 issue in the 2020 presidential race, and for our planet's sake, we can't afford to waste it.

Starting now, we must do everything we can to show DNC chair Tom Perez and the members of the committee how critical it is that they hold this debate — can you help us turn up the pressure?

With one click below, add your name automatically to our growing list of people urging the DNC to hold a dedicated climate debate! We will deliver your signature to Perez at the DNC headquarters:

Dear DNC Chair Tom Perez,

I know you care deeply about our growing climate crisis, so I urge you to schedule a dedicated Democratic presidential debate on climate change immediately.

Climate change action is the top issue for Democratic voters. It affects everything in our lives, from the places we live to the water we drink to the air we breathe. The public deserves to know the candidates' policy positions on these life-or-death issues — and whether they are committed to taking the bold action that we need to fight this crisis.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country have demanded a climate debate, and at least 15 Democratic presidential candidates have agreed to participate. Time is running out for our planet, and we must put this issue on the national political stage as quickly as we can. We need the time to hear detailed answers about each candidate's climate change and clean energy policies, and we need it now.

Thank you.

You and I both know that climate change is the central environmental challenge of our time — today's scientists point to it as the biggest global health threat of the 21st century. It's an existential threat that impacts all of us — and vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, low-income communities, and communities of color often bear the brunt of the consequences.

Yet the climate crisis did not get nearly the airtime it needed during the first presidential primary debates on CNN and NBC earlier this summer. It's time for a dedicated conversation on this issue where we can hear from each candidate on their climate change and clean energy policies.

That's why hundreds of thousands of activists — and most of the presidential candidates themselves — have urged the DNC to give this issue the attention it deserves, forcing the committee to reconsider its opposition to a dedicated climate debate.

This progress shows that when we collectively raise our voices, we can change decisions made in Washington.

So let's continue pushing. The urgency of this moment is so crucial that we've made it as quick and easy as possible to take action — click here to automatically sign on to our open letter to Tom Perez, and we'll deliver your signature at the DNC headquarters.

Thank you for taking action.

Sincerely,
Kevin
