Foreign Affairs Minister to welcome U.S. Secretary of State

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will welcome Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, to Ottawa on August 22, 2019.

The Minister will host meetings with the Secretary of State to discuss Canada-U.S. cooperation on bilateral, regional and global issues, including key security and foreign policy matters. During the visit, the Secretary of State will meet with the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

The visit will also provide an opportunity to further strengthen the Canada-U.S. economic, security and defence partnership, building on the outcomes of Prime Minister Trudeau’s most recent visit to Washington, D.C., and his meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump.
