AN UPDATE ON PROTEST VIOLENCE IN THE LONE STAR STATE

George Floyd's death touched every corner of our country and people are rightfully angry. Every person has the right to make their voices heard and protest against injustices. That's the beauty of living in the freest nation in the world.
However, violence, looting, and vandalism are never the answer and have no place in Texas. We have deployed Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and Texas National Guardsmen to several Texas cities to work alongside our local and federal partners to protect those who are protesting peacefully.
Also, on Monday I joined all four U.S Attorneys in Texas to announce that criminals are coming to Texas from out of state to loot or commit crimes that violate federal law will be subject to federal prosecution.

Our work will not end until justice, fairness, and equality become a reality in every part of the Lone Star State. We will seize this moment to bridge the divides that exist in our state so that we can keep Texas the greatest state in America.
ANNOUNCING PHASE III TO OPEN TEXAS

On Wednesday, we announced the third phase of Texas' plan to safely open the economy while containing the spread of COVID-19. As with previous phases, Phase III is based on the advice and support of the four doctors on the Open Texas Strike Force medical team.
Under Phase III, all businesses in Texas will be able to operate at up to 50% capacity, with limited exceptions. Businesses that previously have been able to operate at 100% capacity may continue to do so, and most outdoor areas are not subject to capacity limits.
As we begin Phase III, I ask all Texans and Texas businesses to continue following standard health protocols and to heed the guidance of our state and federal officials who continue to closely monitor COVID-19.

TEXAS NOW RANKED #1 IN AMERICA FOR CORONAVIRUS RECOVERIES

Great news for Texas: The Lone Star State had the fewest COVID-19 fatalities since March 30th on Monday, and had the fewest Texans testing positive for the coronavirus in the past 6 weeks.
We now lead the nation in COVID-19 recoveries.
Texans are resilient. We will overcome this virus.
REQUESTING A DISASTER DESIGNATION FROM THE SBA

Last week, I requested a disaster designation from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in order to access the disaster loan program for Polk County.
If granted, the disaster loans will assist qualifying citizens and businesses in Polk County affected by major tornado damage sustained in April

The damage from these tornadoes created an economic emergency in Polk County, and the state is committed to ensuring this community has the resources and assistance needed to recover and rebuild.

FRISCO IS THE FASTEST-GROWING LARGE CITY IN AMERICA

Frisco is the fastest-growing large city in the nation. Frisco's skyrocketing growth has outpaced every other city in America with more than 50,000 new residents.
Five other cities made the top 15 list: McKinney, Cedar Park, New Braunfels, Conroe, and Round Rock.
CITY OF DALLAS REJECTS PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

Congratulations to the city of Dallas for rejecting an 8% property tax increase.
It's best for property owners and great for attracting good paying jobs to this wonderful city.
Dallas is a model for other cities.
TEXAS A&M SET TO REOPEN CAMPUS IN THE FALL

The Texas A&M University System's Board of Regents is moving forward with plans to reopen campuses and programs for the 2020-2021 academic year.
A&M is set to utilize social distancing practices to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 while getting students back to school.
Other universities in Texas have also announced plans to safely reopen their campuses while protecting the health and safety of students.

Reminders for those going out as the State continues to open:
- Individuals are encouraged to wear appropriate face coverings
- People should not be in groups greater than ten when possible
- People over the age of 65 are encouraged to stay at home as much as possible
- People are still asked to avoid nursing homes, state supported living centers, assisted living facilities, or long-term care facilities
