Email from Children's Law Center Celebrating Judith Sandalow's 25 Years of Leadership As Women's History Month comes to an end, I want to recognize a woman who is still making history: Judith Sandalow. This year marks Judith's 25th anniversary as CEO of Children's Law Center. She is most often recognized for the impact she has had on DC’s children and families, growing Children’s Law Center from three staff to an anchor institution with more than 100 lawyers and other professionals. Together, they reach more than 5,000 children and families each year and have a profound influence on DC’s laws, budget and policies. As board chair, I’ve had the good fortune to work closely with Judith. And I’ve also seen the impact she’s had on the careers of women across our entire profession. Judith has been a model for and has mentored countless women leaders. Seven of the eight women who lead our legal programs joined Children’s Law Center as staff attorneys. Other women who started their careers at Children’s Law Center have left to take formal leadership positions, becoming executive directors and legal directors at local and national organizations such as the National Association of Counsel for Children, DC Access to Justice Commission and the DC Affordable Law Firm. Judith celebrates what she calls the “Children’s Law Center diaspora,” no matter what their formal title because they spread the tenacity and commitment to excellence that they learned at Children’s Law Center to benefit more children and families. Judith has prioritized a flexible workplace culture that values families. From the beginning she insisted that Children’s Law Center fully cover health insurance for all employees and their children and built a flexible workplace that accommodates caregiving needs. During the pandemic, her support was literally seen on the screen when she took time to talk with children who joined Zoom calls. And anyone who has visited Children’s Law Center’s offices can appreciate the kids' room – a favorite among children who come to work with their parents. I can't think of anyone better to lead this organization, especially during these challenging times. Please join me in celebrating this remarkable milestone. Share a congratulatory post or add your story of Judith on our LinkedIn post here! Thank you, Judith. Your legacy has already left an indelible mark on many – and continues to inspire and drive meaningful change for thousands of children and families.
