The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) found nearly 70% of crime guns recovered in Mexico are traced right back to American manufacturers and dealers.

While the far right floats wild schemes to bomb Mexico, leaders like Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Joaquin Castro have introduced the Stop Arming Cartels Act -- a real plan to close the gun-trafficking loopholes and crack down on deadly weapons that cartels use to wage war.

The Trump administration's reckless policies have only exacerbated the crisis of gun trafficking to Mexican cartels. By prioritizing the interests of the gun lobby over the safety of American and Mexican communities. Trump has made it easier for firearms to flow into the hands of violent criminals.

The Stop Arming Cartels Act would finally do what gun lobbyists and MAGA extremists fear: hold gun dealers accountable when they break the law, prohibit future sales of war-zone weapons like .50 cal rifles, and stop firearm sales to narco-traffickers blacklisted under U.S. law.

The bill adds rifle sales reporting requirements to help law enforcement trace gun trafficking faster and more effectively because most of this carnage begins legally, right here in the United States.

This isn't complicated. If we want to stop cartel violence, stop migrant smuggling, and stop fentanyl deaths, we have to stop handing them the weapons to do it.
