President Trump is trying to silence, intimidate, and eliminate any person or organization that opposes him. Late Friday night, when he thought no one was paying attention, Trump ordered his administration to sanction and punish lawyers who may at some point argue against him or his administration’s policies.

I chose to pursue a career in law because I cared deeply about equity, liberty, and justice. I have been fighting for these values for more than 23 years and will continue fighting to expand our rights and protect our livelihoods in the face of anti-democratic attacks.
I am proud of what we do at the National Women’s Law Center as a team of dedicated advocates and lawyers who are committed to these same ideals. One thing I know for sure: in the face of Trump’s lawless order, we are not backing down.

President Trump’s directive aims to intimidate lawyers into submission, silencing anyone who has the tools to challenge his unconstitutional agenda. Unfortunately for him, the lawyers and advocates at NWLC are defiant.

In just two months of this Trump administration, we have challenged illegal executive orders on DEI, gone to court to protect the Title IX rights of student survivors of harassment, lobbied against dangerous cabinet nominees, and uplifted stories of how his policies and actions are actively harming women and families, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people of color.

Donald Trump may continue to attack our democracy, including using scare tactics aimed at lawyers. But the National Women’s Law Center will never bend to authoritarianism or give in to fear.
