I attended my first protest when I was in elementary school. Although I didn’t know it at the time, my experience linking arms alongside my mom, my younger sister, and countless others protesting a nuclear weapons facility would shape the rest of my life. That morning, I learned my first lesson about the power of collective action.

Since then, I’ve spent more than 30 years in the environmental movement, including 16 years with the Conservation Voters Movement as my professional home, the last eight of which I’ve served as LCV’s Senior Vice President of Campaigns. Now, as LCV’s incoming president, I’m enormously excited to be stepping into a role that allows me to grow the environmental movement’s power even more.

LCV and the Conservation Voters Movement build political power for people and the planet with the aim of stopping climate change and strengthening our nation’s democracy. We do this by organizing, advocating, holding leaders accountable, and electing pro-climate, pro-democracy leaders to office.

Our organization is smart and strategic, and, most importantly, we have the support of people like you. Your generosity and commitment allows us to create long-lasting climate policies, and to reach people directly so that they can make the connection between the impacts of climate and democracy polices and their daily lives.

Though these are dark and deeply disturbing times — our hard-won climate progress is in jeopardy, our ability to tackle racial inequality is at substantial risk, and our nation’s democratic institutions are under assault — I’m confident that, together, our movement can build a more just and more prosperous society.

As LCV’s next president, I look forward to working alongside you, our fantastic staff, and our state affiliates all across the country to ensure a safer, healthier future for all.
