John,

He’s done it again.

Earlier this week, President Trump fired two Democratic members of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) — an independent agency dedicated to protecting consumers from deceptive and unfair business practices. [1] This is exactly what he did to Federal Election Commission (FEC) Commissioner Ellen Weintraub last month.

These illegal firing attempts highlight a pattern of President Trump acting unilaterally to bring independent agencies under the control of the White House and are a brazen attack on the checks and balances established as the foundation of democracy in the Constitution. Even more troubling, this attempt to weaken the FTC impacts all of us! Without the FTC, corporations and scammers will be free to deceive consumers, exploit personal data, and crush smaller competitors. Americans could face higher prices, more fraud, and fewer protections.

Add your name to show your support for these two FTC commissioners and that you stand against this abuse of power.

Add Your Name

The FTC is supposed to be totally independent from the president, because the agency’s only loyalty should be to American consumers and making sure we all get a fair deal – NOT the current president’s political agenda.

If we don’t stop this, the effects on consumers and our democracy could be devastating. We need to stand up against this defiance of our nation’s system of checks and balances. Add your name if you agree.

In solidarity,

The Issue One Team
