Poll Results: Your Opinion Matters to Us
Dear Supporter,
As I wrote to you last week, billionaire Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) 20-something staffers are now “calling the shots” at the Social Security Administration (SSA). And there are big concerns by former SSA officials that Musk is on the verge of breaking something.
Under the influence of President Trump, Musk and DOGE, SSA leadership has taken several extreme steps to downsize the agency and undermine its ability to properly serve Social Security beneficiaries, including:
Radically reducing the agency’s workforce, laying off at least 7,000 SSA staffers and shuttering field offices across the country;
Accessing the sensitive personal data of millions of Social Security beneficiaries;
Claiming without any proof that there is massive fraud at the agency; and
Making it harder for Americans to collect their hard-earned Social Security benefits by requiring claimants who call the agency’s 1-800 phone line to verify their identity online, which would force seniors’ and people with disabilities to navigate a needless technical hurdle while there already are adequate systems in place to verify identity via telephone.
That’s why I recently asked this question of our readers: Do you support a plan to cut at least 7,000 jobs from the Social Security Administration — about 12% of its workforce — to help reduce the national debt and the size of our federal government?
Overall, 95% of respondents answered a resounding “NO.” It’s clear our supporters are deeply concerned by the agenda of Elon Musk and DOGE to tamper with their Social Security benefits. At a time when SSA’s staffing is already at a 50-year low and 10,000 new baby boomers are turning age 65 every day, cutting SSA’s staff would devastate customer service for millions of older Americans … and worse, it could lead to disruptions in benefit payments!
Musk’s real agenda isn’t about making SSA more efficient. It’s about dismantling one of America’s most popular federal programs, piece by piece, and ultimately paving the way for privatizing the agency.
With your continued support, the National Committee will ramp up pressure on members of Congress to exercise their Constitutional role in our government to stop Musk from dismantling the Social Security program.
