Friend – Well, Trump did it. Ugh. The president just signed an Executive Order to dismantle the Department of Education. It’s time to raise our voices to protect the rights of our children (again). This blatant disregard for the critical role the Department of Education plays in advancing quality education is not okay.
Trump is doing the opposite of what parents, regardless of political affiliation, want to see. Polling shows that parents want to see our public schools provided with the tools and resources they need to support students, not undermined.
Tell members of Congress to say NO to dismantling and defunding our public education system!
Our public education system serves 90% of America’s children. That’s nearly 50 million children. [1,2] And those students, our children, would be the ones to suffer if Congress does not stand up to Trump’s horrible plans!
Carrying out this Executive Order will rip away critical funding, leaving schools without the resources they need to keep classrooms open, provide student support, and pay teachers. Millions of students — particularly those in underfunded communities — will lose access to the education resources that help them thrive. This is not okay!

Dear Friend,
Donald Trump is trying to attack public education with another one of his (illegal) executive actions. But, he can’t do that. In the words of my mother “someone has gotten too big for his britches.” And the moms of America are here to remind him that there is a limit to his power and the harm he can do to our children.
Public education is wildly popular. Parents, regardless of political affiliation, want to see our public schools nurtured and thrive. Our public education system serves 90% of America’s children. That’s nearly 50 million children. [1,2] And those students, our children, would be the ones to suffer if Congress does not stand up to Trump’s horrible plans! We are not willing to risk our children’s future by allowing a bully to tear apart critical programs like Title I funding that helps provide educational support for kids living in low income communities or the special education funding that ensures children with disabilities are protected and receive the resources they need to succeed. [3] We will not be bullied.
I take this personally. I’m a product of the public education system. I received a fantastic education alongside children, teachers, and staff who helped shape my views, grow my empathy for others, and challenge me to be my best self. These are the experiences I want for my children. In one short year my oldest will start Kindergarten. I want her to learn beside children from different backgrounds in an environment that is safe, properly-funded, and equitable for every student and their needs. As a parent, I always want better for my children. Defunding and dismantling our public school system is not better. This is an attack on public education yes, but it is also a direct attack on our kids, and their future!
This is a critical time. Extremist Republicans have long awaited an opportunity to take over, dismantle and harm our public education system. And they plan to do just that. But we don’t have kings in the United States and Donald Trump doesn’t get to unilaterally take down systems critical to our nation’s well-being. Stand with moms, parents, and caregivers around the country and remind Congress who holds the power on this critical decision.
Together, we’re a powerful force for women and families!

P.S. What would it mean to you and your children if Donald Trump and his Republican cronies in Congress succeeded in slashing funding or dismantling our public education system? We want to know how this could impact you and your family. Share your story here.
