This is what happens when grassroots supporters like YOU step up to help elect climate leaders.

When we fight to elect climate champions, John — we expect them to deliver. And in Portland, they just did.

Last night, thanks to the leadership of JanePAC-endorsed Councilors Mitch Green, Angelita Morillo, Tiffany Koyama Lane, and Candace Avalos, Portland City Council passed a resolution to investigate Zenith Energy, a Texas-based fossil fuel company with a history of skirting environmental laws and putting communities at risk.

This resolution is about deciding who gets to shape our communities — polluters and corporate lobbyists, or the people we elect to serve us.

Zenith Energy has been storing and moving dangerous fossil fuels through the city of Portland for years with seeming disregard for community safety and for the health of the Willamette River.

Local residents have spoken up loud and clear about their concerns, but the company has continued to move dangerous crude oil through Portland communities. This not only contributes to climate pollution, it also puts neighborhoods at risk from derailments, spills, and even explosions.

Climate leaders like Mitch Green, Angelita Morillo, Tiffany Koyama Lane, and Candace Avalos are fighting back and demanding that the people of Portland — not corporate polluters — have the final say when it comes to land use and public safety.

Portland’s win proves what’s possible when grassroots supporters like you step up to elect real climate leaders. Now, we need to keep the momentum going.

Here’s the reality: With Trump back in the White House, we can’t rely on the federal government to protect our communities. His allies are already gutting climate policies and fast-tracking giveaways to Big Oil. The fight is shifting to the states. To the cities. To the school boards and utility commissions.

And thanks to grassroots donors like you, we’re getting it done. This is how we make climate progress: one election at a time.

With so many state and local seats up for grabs around the country this year, we have a massive opportunity to elect more leaders who will never back down. But we need the resources to do it. Can you donate today to power our critical work ahead?
