Target is launching grocery brand Good & Gather in bid to boost its food business

After years of rolling out private-label brands in apparel and home goods, Target is starting a new grocery brand. The new line, Good & Gather, will hit Target stores beginning Sept. 15 and will have more than 2,000 items by the end of 2020. Stephanie Lundquist, head of food and beverage at Target explained, “Food and beverage play such an important role for Target’s business ... for the Target experience.”

U.S. Attorney offering to prosecute marijuana cases for Florida

Last month, several states attorneys in Florida announced they may pass on prosecuting marijuana cases until testing is adopted that can decipher between hemp and pot. Now, U.S. Attorney Larry Keefe says he will prosecute the marijuana cases that others will not due to an inability to tell the difference between the Schedule 1 drug and legal cannabis. The 2018 Farm Bill and the Florida Legislature legalized hemp with less than .3% THC, the psychoactive ingredient that causes a high.

UPS joins race for future of delivery services by investing in self-driving trucks

In an announcement last week, UPS reported an investment in TuSimple, an autonomous truck startup, in an effort to cut costs and time in the ever-increasing race for more-efficient ground deliveries. UPS also revealed that it has already contracted TuSimple to deliver packages between Phoenix and Tucson and has been using the service since May.

Death toll from tainted liquor in Costa Rica reaches 25, officials say

The death toll from tainted liquor in Costa Rica has reached 25, with nearly 60 people hospitalized, officials in the Central American country said. The news comes after a spate of suspicious deaths of Americans in the Dominican Republic earlier this year which are being investigated for possible poisoning from counterfeit booze.
