Dear Friend,

In September of last year, I announced that after 19 years as LCV’s president — and another dozen years on LCV’s Board before — I’m stepping down from my role.

Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to LCV’s next president, Pete Maysmith, who has been working at the forefront of the environmental movement for more
than 30 years.

Pete brings a wealth of experience to the position, serving as LCV’s Senior Vice
President of Campaigns since 2017. Prior to joining LCV, he served for eight years as the founding executive director of Conservation Colorado, an LCV state affiliate with a long track record of successfully organizing and advocating for strong climate, environmental, and public lands policies.

Now, more than ever, it’s vital that LCV and the Conservation Voters Movement are led by someone who offers steady continuity and a strong vision for how we tackle the climate crisis, confront environmental injustice, and bolster our nation’s democracy. Pete’s extensive experience driving LCV’s political and campaign operations — and his work to build LCV into the premier advocacy organization it is today — make him well suited to lead us through these unprecedented times and into this critical next chapter of our work.

Pete will be officially stepping into the role of LCV President on April 15.

As I reflect on my tenure, I’m proud of all that LCV has accomplished over the last 19 years. It’s been a privilege to serve, and I’m so grateful for supporters like you who’ve fueled our organizations’ ability to secure a safer, healthier, and more just climate future and democracy for all.

I’m also keenly aware of the threats we face and how much we as a movement still have left to do to protect people and the planet and to secure a strong democracy. That’s why I and LCV’s Board of Directors are thrilled to be passing the torch to Pete, who we know will work tirelessly to ensure our movement’s success.

Please join me in welcoming Pete, and please consider supporting — or increasing your support for — LCV’s work [link removed] during this important transition as we continue our work to make our environment, our climate, and our democracy stronger and safer for all.

Onward,

Gene Karpinski, LCV President
