John,

Elon Musk’s DOGE continues to overreach in Washington, slashing and burning federal agencies and, now, even a nonprofit that doesn’t fall under its purview.

Yesterday, DOGE stormed the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) — an organization dedicated to conflict resolution and peace building abroad — forced its officials to leave, and took over the building. [1]

This comes in the wake of DOGE’s dismantling of critical government agencies like USAID and the Department of Education — but here’s the problem: Congress created USIP to be a totally independent nonprofit, meaning it doesn’t fall under the authority of DOGE, the executive branch, and certainly not an unelected billionaire.

Not only is this an unprecedented power grab, it’s yet another example of Elon Musk and DOGE stomping all over Congress and their constitutional authority. If we allow this to stand, what’s next? What other independent institutions will be strong-armed out of existence? And will Congress just become a ceremonial body rendering their powers irrelevant?

This must stop – but it only will if lawmakers start doing their jobs. Send letters to your members of Congress to demand:

✅ Congressional intervention to stop the illegal takeover.

✅ Hearings to demand full accountability for those who authorized this raid.

Send Your Letters

We need Congress to do its job and stand up for their constitutional powers. Together we can make our voices heard and ensure they know we want them to stop this overreach and stand up for our Constitution.

Our voices matter,

The Issue One Team
