Friends --

Over the past several days, we have watched our communities in pain.

We hurt for George Floyd, for Breonna Taylor, for Ahmaud Arbery, and for so many others who have been deemed lesser by our society simply because of the color of their skin. This pain has been on full display as protests occur in Denver and cities across the U.S.

But this is bigger than the officers in Minneapolis or our criminal justice system -- it is about the systemic racism that is embedded in our society. As parents, we recognize we'll never need to have the same conversation that Black parents do: Stay calm. Don't go into unknown neighborhoods. Hands on the steering wheel. Don't talk back.

That's what privilege looks like. And it's time we address it.

Now more than ever, we reaffirm our commitment to fighting injustice wherever we find it. It begins with acknowledging there is a problem, and taking action to stand up against racism. It also needs to begin with teaching our children about racism. It didn't end with slavery, or after the civil rights movement in the 60s -- racism still lives on in this country and we need to address it head-on.

It's the only way forward.

It is imperative that we as a community end the longstanding systemic injustices and inequities that plague the Black community and communities of color across our country. Justice begins with accountability and requires all of us to commit to combating racism, discrimination, and ingrained biases -- both individually and on an institutional level. Our country was dealing with these issues long before President Trump was in office, but he has only sought to inflame them. We all have a responsibility to speak out, to do the work, to be an ally, to vote, to protest, and to stand together against racism.

We stand with everyone advocating for justice and we will not be silent.
