*BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!* In order for nonprofit organizations to operate effectively, especially smaller organizations with limited or no staff, an organization's leadership must have working knowledge of financial management. This includes everything from understanding fiduciary responsibilities to being aware of financial issues that allow board members and executives to make consequential and responsible financial decisions. While board members and executives are not required to be full-fledged CPAs or finance experts, they must also not just rely on others to be the experts and to understand and “translate” for everyone. Many smaller organizations work with professional accountants or consultants on their financial management. Knowing what to look for and the right questions to ask is key to ensuring that the organization’s financial management is solid.
The purpose of this *three-day (1.5 hours/day) workshop* is to provide participants with a basic but solid foundation of nonprofit financial management and leadership. This will begin with understanding the vocabulary to help with comprehension and communication, followed by a review of managerial and financial accounting. Participants will learn about and better understand financial planning and budgeting, and how to read and understand financial reports. They will take away resources to help them create financial controls designed to keep the operations of the organization going as planned. Finally, participants will learn about some specific mechanism and “oddities” of nonprofit financials, address some “hot” topics, and get an in-depth understanding of ethics in nonprofit financial management.

All the Bells and Whistles: How Texas Women Turned Homecoming Mums into a Lone Star Phenomenon [ [link removed] ]
When Texans think of homecoming mums, two images come to our minds: the style of mums popular during our high school years, and the gigantic mums we see today in social media. If asked why this upsizing phenomenon is happening only in the Lone Star State, we shrug and say, “Everything’s bigger in Texas.” You might say that that's both a statement of fact and a call to action.
*Presented by:* Amy J. Schultz, author of "MUMENTOUS" and owner of Unplain Jane Studio, which blends her enthusiasm for photography, writing, people, and, as she puts it, “stories that hide in plain sight.”
