The Local Voices, Local Choices Act has been reintroduced and is up for its first hearing this Thursday! This legislation would empower cities, counties, and school districts to adopt Ranked Choice Voting for their local elections—giving communities the choice to improve their elections with a more inclusive and representative system. Carried by Elections Chair Sen. Jim Carlson and coauthored by Senators Westlin, Cwodzinski, and Hauschild, this bill would: -
Give voters in every Minnesota city the local control they need to choose RCV for their local elections.
- Allow existing RCV cities flexibility in choosing odd- or even-year election cycles.
-
Provide consistent implementation standards for the use of RCV.
