Bloomberg ([link removed]) (2/10/25) op-ed: "In the days leading up to this year’s Super Bowl, only two brands rolled out car commercials — Jeep and Ram, both owned by Stellantis NV. These were the only EV ads, and even then, both featured plenty of screen time for gasoline-powered models. The entire auto industry has been spending more judiciously on advertising in recent years, and the ROI on a Super Bowl ad can be greater for smaller brands and companies looking to introduce themselves to a broader audience. The lack of EVs advertised this Super Bowl follows the Trump Administration’s pledge to nudge Detroit executives and US drivers away from cleaner technology."

(2/07/25) reports: "The Republican-led House passed legislation to block future administrations from enacting bans on oil and gas drilling without congressional approval. In a vote on Friday, lawmakers passed the 'Protecting American Energy Production Act' to prohibit the president from 'declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing unless Congress authorizes the moratorium.' There were 118 Democrats who voted against the legislation, while Republican House members unanimously voted in favor of its passage. Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, the Republican who introduced the bill, said concerns over potential fracking bans during the Biden administration was what prompted the legislation."

(2/10/25) reports: "The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) conducted a real-world test of more than a dozen EVs from Ottawa to Mont Tremblant, Que., many of them the most popular models in Canada, to see how well they handle subzero temperatures. The test featured 14 EVs, which includes seven out of 10 of the top sellers in Canada. Models came from sport, luxury, SUV, sedan and truck categories. Temperatures during the drive varied between -7 C and -15 C. Each vehicle was driven until the battery ran completely out of power to determine range in winter conditions. The CAA test found that vehicles drove between 14 and 39 per cent less than their official ranges."

(2/06/25) reports: "Quebec Environment Minister Benoit Charette said the government of the Canadian province is open to reconsidering two major energy infrastructure projects that it previously rejected. TC Energy Corp.’s Energy East pipeline, which would have carried western Canadian crude to refineries in eastern Canada, was mothballed in 2017 over regulatory hurdles and intense political opposition in Quebec. A separate proposal known as GNL Quebec to build a liquefied natural gas pipeline and export terminal in the Saguenay region was rejected by both federal and provincial authorities on environmental grounds."
