John,
Working families are struggling, while the private prison industry is thriving with record profits and family separations, and Pentagon contractors rip off the country with outrageous overcharges for ordinary items as well as huge weapon systems. It’s time for a budget that prioritizes people, not war profiteers and mass incarceration.
The House-approved budget slashes funding for food assistance, healthcare, and education while funneling an outrageous $150 billion more to the Pentagon and $175 billion to ICE. Who benefits? Not everyday Americans. The real winners are defense contractors and private prison corporations cashing in on taxpayer dollars.
The Pentagon continues to funnel billions to companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon. These defense giants already collect half of the nearly $900 billion defense budget annually, with markups as high as 40%.
Yet instead of cutting wasteful military contracts, Congress is forcing deep cuts to programs that actually sustain families -- food assistance (SNAP), healthcare for low-income communities, and education that helps break the cycle of poverty.
Send a direct message to Congress to reject extra funding for ICE and the Pentagon, and urge them to invest in our communities instead.
Meanwhile, private prison corporations are cashing in on human suffering. The same companies running detention centers -- where reports of abuse, medical neglect, and solitary confinement are rampant -- are seeing record profits.
The CEO of GEO Group, a major player in the private prison industry, openly bragged they’re experiencing “unprecedented interest” in new contracts. After pouring $2 million into Republican PACs, their investment in politicians is evidently paying off, while the nation’s most vulnerable families pay the price.
A new report by the National Immigrant Justice Center exposes just how dire conditions are inside these for-profit detention centers. Immigrants are subjected to punitive solitary confinement, denied fair legal proceedings, and face systemic discrimination, particularly against LGBTQ+ detainees. While politicians and corporations profit, families are torn apart.
If Congress truly cares about cutting waste, fraud, and abuse, they should start with the Pentagon and private prison industry -- not with programs that help struggling Americans survive.
Congress must reject extra funding for ICE and the Pentagon and invest in food, healthcare, and education instead. We cannot let corporate greed dictate our nation’s priorities. Stop sending billions to private prisons and defense contractors! Our communities deserve better.
Sign and send your message now: No more billions for ICE and defense contractors. Fund food, healthcare, and education instead!
Thank you for standing up for justice for American families.
