Good morning!
I hope this finds those of you in the heart of the country doing okay this morning after the horrifying storms of yesterday. If you didn't hear, tornadoes, wildfires, and dust storms hit the Plains, Missouri, and Mississippi yesterday, wreaking havoc and causing casualties. I have family in the affected areas, so I was watching it closely. After the utter devastation in Western NC, I worry a lot more about storms than I used to.
I woke up to a muggy, cloudy morning here in central NC. It isn't hot, but the humidity makes it feel stuffy. Around here, it's looking like spring has sprung. Tulip trees, dogwoods, daffodils, hyacinths, and other blossoms are everywhere and the trees are almost ready to bud with fresh new leaves. I've always loved Spring and Fall, those seasons of beautiful transition.
My daughter's place has a beautiful central courtyard with tons of flowers and trees. I like to go in the early afternoon to sit on a bench and read a book. Even though we're in the midst of a city, the car noises fade away and all you hear at there is the music of the many birds that reside in the garden.
Speaking of books, yesterday we went to the library, which isn't too far away. I checked out some books that were on my Amazon list, which saved me at least $30, so that's always nice. When I read for enjoyment, it's generally fiction. My favorite authors are Dean Koontz (suspense) and Alice Hoffman (absolutely beautiful prose). I know they aren't Tolstoy and Hemingway, but I want reading to just sweep me away to another world and keep me turning pages, not be a painful chore that feels like a school assignment I must wade through. (Sorry, Leo and Ernie!) Libraries are among my favorite places, and I have an idea for prepper fiction based on a library that I hope to get to after I finish writing Haven Hill.
My cat and my daughter's two cats have finally reached an uneasy truce. I wouldn't say they actually like each other, but they were all sitting in the same windowsill enjoying the afternoon sun yesterday, so I consider that a win. My cat is about ten years younger than hers, so she's bursting with playful energy while they're in the part of life where they enjoy luxuriating in the sun far more than playing. It's been fun watching them become acquainted, and I love animals, so my daughter having a fluffy, adorable pair is quite a bonus.
I'm off to do the NYT crossword and enjoy some coffee. I hope you have a lovely day and a wonderful week ahead.
Stay safe and be happy.
Daisy
