Report: Retail sales grew year-over-year in January

US retail sales excluding autos and gas dipped 1.07% in January from the previous month, following a stronger-than-expected holiday shopping season, according to the CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor. Sales were up 5.44% from January 2024, and core retail sales -- excluding restaurants in addition to autos and gas -- rose 5.72% year-over-year.
