** Last chance to enter Poynter Journalism Prizes
------------------------------------------------------------

Great short writing isn’t just about brevity—it’s about impact. Poynter senior scholar Roy Peter Clark recalls ([link removed]) poet Peter Meinke’s belief that the best short pieces share three qualities: focus, wit and polish. These principles shape the Roy Peter Clark Prize for Excellence in Short Writing—one of 10 categories in the 2025 Poynter Journalism Prizes.

The Poynter Journalism Prizes honor exceptional work across a range of journalistic fields, from investigative reporting to commentary and First Amendment work. Journalists and news organizations can enter their work for a chance to win cash awards and gain recognition for their excellence. If you're interested in applying, submit your work by 6 p.m. EST on Feb. 14 ([link removed]) .
