Dear John,
This week, I delivered my final State of the City Address, reflecting on the incredible progress we’ve made together over the past seven years and the work still ahead to ensure Hoboken thrives for generations to come. You can watch the full address here, read the news here, or you can read the highlights below.
Since I took office, we have transformed our city. I am proud to say that Hoboken is stronger, safer, more resilient, and more inclusive than ever. Together, we have:
🚦Made Hoboken a national model for Pedestrian Safety– 8 consecutive years with zero traffic-related deaths, leading the nation in pedestrian and cyclist safety.
🏞️ Expanded open spaces — most notably at the former Union Dry Dock waterfront site with a public park, and the opening this year of our expanded Southwest Resiliency Park with 500,000 gallon water retention.
🌊 Led the fight against climate change – major flood mitigation projects like Rebuild by Design expanded green infrastructure and investments in clean energy.
🏡 Expanded affordable housing and maintained robust rent control – over 200 new affordable units coming in the next five years, new workforce housing projects, and the first senior affordable housing development in 30 years.
🚔 Strengthened public safety – Proposed a new community policing unit for more foot patrols, and invested in security cameras in areas like Church Square Park to enhance safety across the city. Read more about the new community policing bureau here.
Hoboken is stronger today than ever before—because we didn’t just rebuild, we built forward. And we did it together.
From flood protection and sustainable parks to safer streets and stronger housing protections, we have laid a foundation that will serve future generations of Hoboken residents.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor, and I know that our best days are still ahead.
Best,
Ravi Bhalla
