# Missouri Conference Receives UMCOR Grants
The United Methodist Committee on Relief issues grants to disaster-affected areas. Due to disasters in our state, the Missouri Conference was awarded three separate grants from UMCOR last year, the most recent of which was last fall.
To date, the Missouri Conference has received $315,000 from UMCOR to support long-term recovery work in response to flooding in St. Louis and tornadoes in southeast Missouri. An additional $10,000 emergency relief solidarity grant was awarded immediately following the spring 2024 storms in the Sikeston area.
We have been using these grant funds to help with direct assistance and unmet needs in the St Louis area. Our current grant funds will help with this work through the end of this spring.

Disaster Response at Annual Conference
At the [link removed] Missouri Annual Conference Session this June in St. Charles, we will be taking up an offering to outfit five Disaster Response Trailers during Saturday's Service of Recognition service. These gifts will help us equip Missouri Conference Disaster Response Trailers with the tools needed to serve communities in crisis. From chainsaws to work gloves, every item stocked means faster, more effective relief when disaster strikes. Your generosity ensures we’re ready to respond with love and practical aid when it’s needed most. [link removed] Learn more →

Connecting Neighbors Interest
If you are looking for ways to help your church become better prepared to respond during times of disaster, consider the UMCOR Connecting Neighbors program. This one-day training helps equip churches with the knowledge and resources needed to protect both people and property, assess community needs, and connect with local emergency plans. Participants will learn how to strengthen communication, identify potential risks and ensure the church is ready to support neighbors in crisis. For more information or to get involved, please contact Bambi Wheeler at mailto:[email protected] [email protected].
