Senate Democrats look to give Trump everything he wants after a "fake fight" on spending bill
In the first real showdown since the election, Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, are poised to give Donald Trump and Elon Musk everything they want while *pretending* to oppose the Republican spending bill. The proposed maneuver would allow Democrats to feign opposition to the new administration’s power grab, while also giving the GOP enough votes to push their agenda through. Republicans only have a 53-47 seat majority in the Senate, and 60 votes are needed to invoke cloture. If Democrats don't provide enough votes for cloture, the government is almost certainly headed toward a shutdown Friday. Despite promising a fight, Senate Democrats are reportedly considering a feckless vote swap. In exchange for providing enough votes to end debate on the GOP spending bill, Senate Republicans would allow a performative Democratic amendment to continue to fund the government at current levels for the next month to come to the floor, known as a continuing resolution, or CR. The Democratic amendment is almost certain to fail. Smoke and mirrors to distract us from the fact that Chuck Schumer HAS the power to block the GOP's bill and for some reason simply WON'T USE IT. "Some Senate Democrats are being tempted to pretend to fight the Trump-Musk funding bill today, then quietly agree to give up on blocking it," wrote Democratic Rep. Greg Casar in a statement to The Intercept. "That would be a disastrous decision. Voting for cloture on a bill that allows Musk and Trump to steal from taxpayers is the same as voting to allow Musk and Trump to steal from taxpayers. Everything is on the line. Democrats weren't elected to put up a fake fight." Serious question: what the f*ck are we doing here?

Stop SB21: A Delaware judge blocked the outrageous $56 BILLION pay package that Elon tried to give himself — and now Elon is out for revenge. Musk's own attorneys wrote a piece of legislation, SB 21, that would create convenient carve-outs that would allow him and his billionaire cronies to essentially steal from the companies they control. Delaware Senate Democrats passed the bill despite this flagrant power grab, but the House still needs to vote next week. Will you stand for yet another instance of this unelected billionaire trying to buy his way into power?

People are so angry that House Democrats are privately starting to push for AOC to primary Schumer in the next election cycle. One member told CNN that "Democrats in Leesburg were 'so mad' that even centrist Democrats were 'ready to write checks for AOC for Senate,' adding that they have 'never seen people so mad.'" As well they should be!

This is either the worst innie vs. outie Severance subplot left on the cutting room floor or a telling sign that folks not named Elon Musk who work at Tesla might not be thrilled with the calamitous direction the MAGA cult leader and famed ketamine popper are steering the country...

The MAGA cult leader is pressuring the Supreme Court he stacked with ultra-conservative justices to let him rewrite the 14th Amendment to his liking, fundamentally changing constitutionally protected birthright citizenship laws in the United States. The once-venerable Ivy League university is dragging its reputation through the dirt in a stunning campaign to punish its students for protesting for Palestinian human rights and an end to Israel's murderous war in Gaza. On the heels of working with law enforcement to arrest student activist Mahmoud Khalil, the university has announced it will be REVOKING DEGREES and expelling students for participating in the protests. The Trump administration just stripped the university of $400 million in federal funds over what it calls "a failure to combat campus antisemitism," so it's fairly clear to see what their goal is. But Columbia has an endowment of $14.8 BILLION, which makes this complicity in the Trump administration's fascistic efforts to muzzle free speech and criminalize protesting all the more despicable.

Specific forms of sexual and gender-based violence and — such as forced public stripping and nudity, sexual harassment including threats of rape, as well as sexual assault — comprise part of the Israeli Security Forces’ standard operating procedures toward Palestinians. Other forms of sexual and gender-based violence, including rape and violence to the genitals, were committed either under explicit orders or with implicit encouragement by Israel’s top civilian and military leadership, the report said.
