** Researchers call for taxpayer funding of test routinely used to target unborn babies with a disability
------------------------------------------------------------

A group of researchers from University College Cork have called for a prenatal test to be funded by Irish taxpayers, to address what they describe as “inequitable access” to the screening at present.

The non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) that the group of academics are pushing to have rolled out for free across the country screens for chromosomal conditions such as trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) and trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome).

“Barriers to accessing NIPT testing include the cost of testing, location of providers, and a lack of appropriate information to allow pregnant people to make informed choices,” the authors of the research said.

Minister for Health undertakes to look at practice of telemedicine abortion

Last week in the Seanad, in the presence of the Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill (pictured above), Senator Rónán Mullen raised Ireland’s spiralling abortion rate and the dangers associated with Government sanctioned telemedicine ‘at home’ abortions.

Senator Mullen referenced the increased likelihood of coercive abortion as a result of telemedicine and the case involving a woman from Limerick who had an abortion via telemedicine and nearly died because of the existence of an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy.

Deputy Carroll MacNeill, who was only recently appointed as Minister for Health responded to Senator Mullen’s call for a review of telemedicine abortion by saying that she did not know enough about the practice but gave an undertaking, saying: “I will need to look at it.”

** SAVE THE DATE!!

March for Life 2025 💙

Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May @2pm

If you don’t have the date in your diary already, PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF IT TODAY!

This year’s March for Life has an added importance as the new government begins to take hold. The significant increase in the number of pro-life TDs and Senators elected recently creates a big opportunity for the pro-life movement - one that we need to embrace wholeheartedly.

The hard work is paying off and starting to show results but we have to keep pushing forward.

Bank Holiday Monday (5th May) is our chance to unite with our pro-life Oireachtas members and send a very clear message to the Government that we expect to see urgent action taken to address Ireland’s skyrocketing abortion numbers. The appalling situation at present of women being kept in the dark about positive alternatives prior to an abortion, has to end.

It will only end however if enough pressure mounts. Change happens when people show up!

On Bank Holiday Monday (5th May), we are counting on you to make an extra special effort to be present.

We can’t wait to see you there!
