Dear Friend,
Tonight, Senate Democratic Leader Schumer announced he would ignore the rights and needs of DC's 700,000 residents and vote "yes" on the Continuing Resolution (CR) that prevents DC from spending a BILLION dollars of our own locally-raised revenue.
Schumer may be giving up, but we are not. Tomorrow the Senate must vote, so it's our last chance to stand up and fight for our money, and that's what we are doing to do.
Tomorrow at 10 AM until the Senate votes, we will be in the Senate telling each and every one to stand with DC. If you can't come down to the Senate, continue to make calls and encourage your out-of-state networks to do the same.
Right now, DC is at the epicenter of the attacks by the Republicans and Washingtonians are feeling the pain. In addition to all we have already experienced through federal cuts, the impacts of this CR are widereaching. Services will have to be cut from fire and EMS services, transit, education, domestic violence services, and much more. Union members including teachers, firefighters and Metro workers are first in line for cuts under these budget constraints. Every DC resident will be touched by this.
If it's your first time going to the Senate - you're not alone! Come meet at the Hart atrium and get connected to other new and experienced advocates fighting together for DC!
It has been powerful to be in the Senate with hundreds of passionate DC residents of every day this week. We will continue to fight for each other, our autonomy, and our democracy.
In solidarity,
Elizabeth
