Friend,
Immediately after Trump was inaugurated, his lawless thugs began raiding
schools in Los Angeles, looking for children to intimidate and treat like
criminals.(1)
More are sure to follow. A critical piece of his cruel mass deportation
plan, these warrantless searches are almost certainly illegal.(2)
That’s why school districts around the state are fighting back, refusing
to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “You can’t learn
when you’re scared,” one educator in San Jose said.(3)
But for Trump and his minions in the MAGA Congress, the cruelty is the
point. That’s why they’re trying to pass HR 32, which would withhold vital
funds from schools, cities, and entire states like California that are
resisting mass deportation.

Trump’s plan for mass deportations would devastate California -- upending
over a million lives and costing the state hundreds of billions of
dollars.(4)
That’s part of why during Trump 1.0, the state adopted a law against
cooperating with the feds on its heartless attempts to intimidate and
deport immigrants.(5)
But HR 32 would punish California, school districts, and any other entity
resisting Trump’s lawless ICE agents, forcing them to participate in mass
deportation actions or potentially risk losing money for programs such as:
* Department of Education grants, National School Lunch Program funding,
and other forms of federal support for schools.
* Emergency Medicaid, which provides states with funding for emergency
care for people ineligible for Medicaid due to their immigration
status.
* Violence Against Women Act grants, such as those supporting violence
crisis centers that do not turn away people based on their immigration
status.
Cutting funding for these programs would take away critical care for tens
of thousands of people, disproportionately impacting low-income and
marginalized Black and Brown communities.

down HR 32?
