Republicans in Congress want to make it harder for married women to vote. Tell Congress to REJECT this voter suppression bill >>

Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy introduced a bill in Congress that would make it harder for millions of Americans to vote, including married women who have changed their last name.

The “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” Act is a ridiculous attempt to prevent non-US citizens from voting in federal elections (they are already ineligible to do so, but Republicans continue to spread conspiracy theories that undocumented immigrants are voting en masse for Democrats).

This bill would require voters to present proof of citizenship when registering to vote, such as a passport (even though nearly half of Americans don't have a passport). Other forms of accepted ID require a birth certificate with a matching name.

Married women who change their names after marriage do not match the name on their birth certificate, and this bill does not include proof of name change or a marriage certificate as acceptable proof of identity, making it extremely difficult for those tens of millions of women to register to vote.

This bill is blatant voter suppression under the guise of “protecting” our elections. Congress must REJECT this bill wholeheartedly and immediately. Sign your name to demand Congress vote NO on this voter suppression bill >>
