Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has officially been confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services—a decision that puts public health at serious risk. Despite his lack of qualifications in healthcare and his long history of spreading dangerous conspiracy theories, the Senate narrowly approved his confirmation in a 52-48 vote.
RFK Jr. has spent years undermining vaccine confidence, profiting from misinformation, and eroding trust in public health institutions. This is the man now tasked with leading the largest health agency in the nation, overseeing vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the CDC.
Here’s what you need to know:
Unqualified Leadership: Kennedy has no experience running a major organization, let alone one that manages over $1.7 trillion in funding annually.
Dangerous Views: He’s repeatedly made false claims about vaccine safety, including suggesting that vaccines cause autism and that Black Americans need a different vaccine schedule due to “stronger immune systems.”
Conspiracy Theories: Kennedy has trafficked in bizarre claims, such as COVID-19 being a bioweapon targeting specific ethnic groups and Lyme disease being a military-engineered weapon.
Even some Republicans expressed deep concerns about Kennedy’s views, but most fell in line to please Donald Trump. Only Mitch McConnell, himself a polio survivor, stood up and voted against this reckless nomination.
We cannot allow this level of incompetence and danger to go unchecked. Every decision RFK Jr. makes as HHS Secretary could have life-or-death consequences, especially for children and vulnerable populations.
