John, Congress is voting on H.R. 32, the Defund Our Communities Act, which some call the "No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act." The bill would give the Trump administration power to strip billions in essential federal funding from hundreds of states, cities, and towns. This bill doubles down on the Trump administration’s attacks on cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and beyond, who protect all members of our communities including immigrants. While this bill targets cities and states that chose to protect their residents from federal immigration enforcement overreach, it would put critical services to all our community members at risk. This bill would enable the Trump administration to: - Cut funding for essential community services including health, education, and emergency response;
- Punish local governments for passing laws to legally protect their residents;
- Harm all community members, regardless of immigration status; and,
- Threaten local jobs and economies.
