When Donald Trump stood before Congress and lied about his so-called mandate to slash Medicaid, Rep. Al Green didn’t sit quietly and shake his head.
He stood up, pointed his cane, and fought back. He called out Trump’s attack on 80 million Americans who depend on Medicaid for their healthcare. He made sure the country saw the truth.
And what did he get for it? Not praise. Not solidarity. He got censured by Republicans and 10 weak Democrats who would rather police their own than stand up for their constituents. The problem isn’t that Rep. Green stood up. It’s that he stood alone.
Where were the rest of the Democrats? Why wasn’t every progressive member of Congress on their feet with him? Why wasn’t the floor flooded with voices saying, You will not gut Medicaid without a fight! Instead, Green was dragged out by security while too many Democrats sat silently. That’s unacceptable.
The American people don’t just want speeches. They want to see action. They want to see Congress fighting for them. If Republicans think they can steamroll our democracy and dismantle our safety net, they should be forced to do it with strong resistance. We need more Democrats to act like Al Greens, not fewer.
Tell Democrats: Challenge the Trump agenda by any means necessary. Stand up, shut down Congress, and don’t be afraid of censure or arrest. Nothing less than the fate of our nation stands in the balance.
Congress doesn’t have to be a polite debating society while Trump and his MAGA extremists destroy this country. It’s time for real, radical resistance.
Republicans are pushing through cuts that will devastate the most vulnerable Americans, while the people elected to oppose them worry about decorum. Enough.
If they can censure one Democrat, let them try to censure everyone. If they try to arrest the next Al Green Democrat, let them drag out an entire chamber of lawmakers refusing to sit by while our country is looted.
They can’t arrest everyone.
And if they do? The American people will see it. They will see who is fighting for them and who is cowering. That’s how movements start. That’s how we win.
Demand action from Congressional Democrats now. No empty words or actions. It’s time to shut down Congress no matter what.
We can’t let another moment like this pass. We can’t let the next Al Green Democrat stand alone.
