UPDATES

We're past the halfway mark: Only 45 days to go in the 2025 Washington legislative session! The House of Origin cutoff was yesterday, March 12. Any bills that did not make it out of their origin chamber will not continue with the legislative process this session.

Thanks to you, most EPC priority, partnership agenda, and Hot List bills are still moving forward!

The Sewage Spill Right-to-Know and the Recycling Reform Act bills survived the March 12 cutoff. So did HB 1563, which would create a prescribed fire claims fund, and HB 1409, which would strengthen Washington's Clean Fuels law. We also defeated bad bills like SB 5703 that would expose the public to more pollution.

Time is of the essence. We must make sure environmental priorities remain top of mind for your lawmakers. In addition to the quick actions listed in this email, we urge you to attend your legislator's town halls and to speak directly to your elected representatives. Scroll down to find one near you.

TAKE ACTION

Hundreds of sewage overflows occur every year. Few are widely reported to the general public. This law would require the Department of Ecology to establish a public-facing website with searchable sewage spill records. The public deserves good government policies that protect their health and this legislation is a good step forward this year!

SHB 1670 passed the House unanimously but nothing is guaranteed this session. The bill needs to pass the Senate to head to the Governor’s desk and be signed into law.

Substitute House Bill 1670 is scheduled for a Senate committee hearing TOMORROW, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. Sign in PRO for SHB 1670 one hour before the hearing. [[link removed]]

Washington's recycling systems haven't kept up with the influx of plastic and paper packaging flooding our homes and environment. The Recycling Reform Act will provide universal recycling services for Washingtonians and make plastic and paper producers pay for it.

This priority bill has made it farther than ever before and it is building momentum for final passage.

Senate Bill 5284 is scheduled for a House committee hearing on March 17 at 1.30 p.m. Sign in PRO for SB 5284 before the hearing. [[link removed]]

Sign in PRO before 3/17 [[link removed]]

Prescribed Fire Claims Fund

The Prescribed Fire Claims Fund would create a fund to support prescribed fire and cultural burning that reduces wildfire risk. House Bill 1563 made it through the House floor before the cutoff!

House Bill 1563 is scheduled for a Senate committee hearing on March 17 at 1.30 p.m. Sign in PRO for HB 1563 before the hearing. [[link removed]]

SB 5077: Automatic voter registration

Automatic voter registration at the DMV has helped many Washingtonians become voters. However, new citizens, low-income people, and people with past convictions still face barriers. By expanding automatic voter registration options, we expand voter accessibility and advance voter justice.

Senate Bill 5077 is scheduled for a committee hearing on March 14 at 8.15 a.m. Sign in PRO for SB 5077 before the hearing. [[link removed]]
