The U.S. Supreme Court just decided to hear a case challenging state laws
restricting LGBTQ conversion therapy for minors.
[ [link removed] ]The New Republic: The Supreme Court Might Re-Legalize LGBTQ Conversion
Therapy. Following a recent and troubling trend, the high court has taken
up another case of fanciful claims that could do real harm to gay and
trans Americans.
Conversion therapy is a dangerous practice that aims to convert children
from LGBTQ to straight or cisgender, often using cruel and disturbing
methods that can result in physical and mental harm.
Right now, 28 states along with Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico have
banned or restricted conversion therapy for people under the age of 18
years old, but anti-LGBTQ, right-wing extremists are claiming these
restrictions violate free speech.
The right-wing majority on the Supreme Court could very well make this
horrific practice legal again, rolling back a major advancement in LGBTQ
rights.
