Hello John,
On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution
to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year. This is a crucial
step forward, but now the responsibility lies with the Senate to act swiftly
and pass the bill.
* Why is this so important? Without this resolution, government funding will
expire at midnight tomorrow, triggering a shutdown that will delay work on
extending Trump’s tax cuts.
Plus, nonessential government services would come to a halt, while essential
workers in sectors like defense, energy, and agriculture would continue working
without pay — though they would receive back pay once a budget is approved.
At its core, this particular CR is more than just a stopgap measure to fund
the government for six months — it’s about preserving stability and addressing
the critical issues that matter to Americans.
Even more pressing, failure to pass the CR risks triggering the largest tax
increase in American history.
Protect your tax cuts, protect prosperity

As President Trump noted: “Conservatives will love this Bill, because it sets
us up to cut Taxes and Spending in Reconciliation, all while effectively
FREEZING Spending this year.”
Passing the CR allows Congress to focus on what truly matters: extending the
2017 Trump tax cuts, which are set to expire at the end of this year. The
sooner the CR is resolved, the sooner lawmakers can turn their attention to
preventing a massive tax hike for millions of Americans.
The Senate’s role and the challenge ahead
The Senate remains a significant obstacle. To pass the CR by tomorrow’s
midnight deadline, 60 votes are needed to overcome a filibuster, but some
lawmakers seem hesitant to do their part.
Last week, MSNBC highlighted one person who claimed many lawmakers feel they
have a “mandate” to let the government shut down.
This is unfortunate. Congress’ only mandate right now should be to tackle the
nation’s most pressing challenges, starting with avoiding a tax hike that could
impact millions of families if the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire.
Why we need better solutions
In the grand scheme of things, CRs are an unsustainable way to govern. They
deepen partisan divides, disrupt government operations, and freeze spending,
blocking new initiatives.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: If CRs are bad, why do we want Congress to
pass this one?
The simple answer is that halfway through the fiscal year and with so much
else for Congress to do, the CR is a legislative distraction we do not need.
We are pushing legislation that would stop the use of CRs by automatically
extending current funding levels while Congress finalizes appropriations bills
and keeps Congress in session until it enacts them all. But until that time
comes, we have to play the hand we’re dealt.
What’s at stake
Passing the CR and tackling the 2017 tax cuts head-on will provide much-needed
certainty — not just for markets but for millions of Americans trying to plan
their financial futures. It’s time to move past this annual funding drama and
focus on sustainable solutions.
Your voice matters. Urge Congress to prioritize extending the 2017 tax cuts
and avoid the devastating consequences of inaction.
