Indiana Bill To Secure Our Communities
With the support of other members of the Indiana congressional delegation, I recently led a letter to Speaker of the Indiana House Todd Huston and President Pro Tempore of the Indiana State Senate Rodric Bay urging the General Assembly to pass HB 1531.
This legislation, introduced by Rep. Prescott, would hold state and local law enforcement to their obligation to help enforce federal immigration law. It would also penalize businesses that violate federal law to hire illegal aliens. And it would ensure that parole sponsors have the financial means to support parolees.
Instead of undermining federal law enforcement, state institutions should be working with ICE to ensure our communities are secure. This bill ensures Hoosier’s tax dollars aren’t going to work against that goal.
Indiana is a model for other states in the fight to protect Americans from foreign criminals and threats to their security. As long as I’m in the Senate, Hoosiers have an advocate in Washington who is working alongside President Trump, state leaders in Indiana’s government, and local law enforcement to support ICE in their effort to secure our communities.
Background:
After four years of a regime that intentionally encouraged an invasion on our border, these actions across multiple levels of government are the overlapping defense system our communities need in the fight against illegal immigration.
The House’s passage of HB 1531 follows an executive order issued by Governor Mike Braun directing Indiana’s law enforcement to cooperate with ICE’s efforts to arrest and deport illegal aliens. Additionally, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced any city, state, governor or mayor who puts criminal aliens above the security of the American people will face the full force of the law.
State Rep. Prescott’s bill passed out of the Indiana House and will now move on to the State Senate for further consideration.
