County leaders warn of property tax hikes due to governor’s budget
|
County commissioners and I recently held a press conference to voice concerns over Governor Tim Walz’s proposal to shift $460 million in costs to counties through the Department of Human Services (DHS) budget. County leaders warned that these shifts would place a significant financial burden on local governments, ultimately leading to higher property taxes across Minnesota.
The proposal is part of Gov. Walz’s attempt to address a projected $5. billion state budget deficit by 2029, which includes $1.5 billion in human services cost shifts. Commissioners in attendance cautioned that transferring these costs to counties could force local governments to raise property taxes by around 7% to 9% to cover the additional expenses.
I invite you to watch a supercut of the county commissioners' testimony!

Holding government accountable for waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer money
|
Senate Republicans have unveiled a comprehensive plan that includes eight bills aimed at holding the government accountable for the waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
I highlighted the bipartisan legislation I'm championing, which aims to prevent future misuse by ensuring state agencies adopt best practices and address the root causes of these issues. I invite you to listen to my comments!

Minnesota should not be spending billions of taxpayer dollars on failing commuter rail services. According to the latest report from MnDOT, the Northstar Line covered less than 3% of its operating costs through ticket sales in 2023. This has left Minnesotans to subsidize over $11 million for a service that most people do not even use.
With the state facing a projected $6 billion deficit by 2029, we need to prioritize cutting wasteful spending. The Northstar Line is a clear example of this.

DFL Sen. Mitchell Faces Second Felony Charge
|
Senator Nicole Mitchell has been hit with a second felony charge, this time for possessing tools linked to burglary or theft. The scandal surrounding her keeps overshadowing the crucial work of the legislature. I believe it’s time to end the distraction and let voters choose a new representative.

Constituents and the Capitol
|
It was recently FFA Day at the Capitol, and I had a fantastic time connecting with the next generation of agricultural leaders! I enjoyed meeting with members of the Ashby and West Central Area FFA chapters, discussing the importance of agricultural education, leadership, and the future of farming in our state. Thank you for your advocacy!
|
I joined constituents at the Minnesota Farm Bureau's annual Council of County Presidents event. It was a great opportunity to share important updates on state policies, connect with our local county leaders, and hear key insights from the American Farm Bureau.
