Chum chucking at Clear Creek habitat site

Chum salmon are vital to the health of the freshwater ecosystem in many ways, but they make their largest contribution after their death! This year, the Port of Tacoma, with assistance from the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, distributed chum carcasses at our Lower Clear Creek habitat site in an annual tradition known as "chum chucking." Monkeyshines delight Pierce County

Every year the Port of Tacoma is delighted to take part in the Monkeyshines project, the joyful Lunar New Year-themed treasure hunt. This year, our staff hid 22 green and white orbs--each crafted by the talented students of Hilltop Artists--in locations across Pierce County.
