Moving Food for Peace to USDA

Image

For the past 70 years, American farmers and shippers have led the effort to combat international hunger through the Food for Peace program and have fed more than 4 billion people in more than 150 countries.

This week my colleagues and I introduced legislation to move the Food for Peace program from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The Food for Peace program plays a critical role in helping prevent starvation in places around the world that need it most, while also providing American farmers additional market opportunities. This legislation allows a commodity-focused agency to manage and execute the program’s mission while ensuring accountability that funds will be spent responsibly.
America must continue to be a global leader in the fight against hunger!

At Work for the Agriculture Industry

On Tuesday I participated in the first House Agriculture Committee hearing of the 119th Congress.

My colleagues and I heard from farmers from across the nation and discussed the economic challenges they are facing. From record-high input costs to addressing labor shortages in our industry, getting a farm bill across the finish line this year is imperative.

I am excited to get to work with my colleagues and start delivering results for American Farmers.

This week I had the pleasure of speaking at the National Council of Agricultural Employers 61st Annual meeting.

Ensuring a strong agriculture workforce remains one of my top priorities, and I am looking forward to hearing more about ways I can help farmers overcome these challenges.

A Strong Future for the Columbia River System

Image

On Tuesday, I met with members of the National Association of Wheat Growers and the Pacficic Northwest Waterways Association to discuss updates on the Columbia River System.
The Columbia and Snake River systems are huge economic drivers not only for our state but our nation. Over 50 percent of our domestic exported wheat goes through these systems!
As your Member of Congress, I will continue fighting to ensure our dams remain in place and that our region continues to enjoy all the benefits they offer.
