A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
The stakes for working families in Rhode Island and across the country could not be higher. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's policies are trying to dismantle two critical agencies that protect you: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Let’s talk about what’s at stake.
Watch Congressman Amo advocate for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the vital work the agency does to protect consumers.
The CFPB: Your Consumer Watchdog
The CFPB exists for one simple reason — to stop banks, credit card companies, and payday lenders from ripping people off. Since its founding, the CFPB has returned over $21 billion to Americans who were victims of illegal or abusive activities.
But Trump and Musk's policies threaten its continued existence. They locked out employees of the headquarters in Washington D.C. and fired as many as 100 senior leaders at the bureau. If they get their way, banks will have fewer rules to follow, corporations will have more power, and consumers will have nowhere to turn when they get ripped off and screwed over.
Watch Congressman Amo support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service that provide weather data on which our entire country relies.
NOAA: Science and Public Safety at Risk
At the same time, there’s a policy effort by unelected billionaire Elon Musk that would weaken NOAA, the federal agency that gives us weather forecasts, tracks hurricanes, and protects our coastline. Empowered by conservatives, he’s working overtime to dismantle the agency. That’s a major red flag.
NOAA’s work isn’t just about the weather — it impacts Rhode Island’s Blue Economy, our fishing industry, and even disaster response. NOAA’s offices and employees have been told to expect a 50% reduction in staff and budget cuts of 30%. If NOAA’s budget and workforce are cut, data will be privatized, and its essential services will be disrupted.
I won’t sit back and watch as Donald Trump and his billionaire friends' policies try to rewrite the rules to serve themselves. That’s why I’m:
This isn’t just about policy—it’s about fundamental fairness. I won’t let Trump and Musk's actions dismantle the protections on which Rhode Islanders rely.
Sincerely, |

In Rhode Island and across our country, firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to keep us safe.
I am co-leading the bipartisan Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act to expand federal support for those brave leaders and their families if impacted by service-related cancer. |

I joined Rhode Island's delegation, as well as my fellow Democrats on the House Science Committee, to demand answers on the safety and status of sensitive data possessed by NOAA to protect their crucial work. |

Last week, I joined Democrats to stand up for the United States Agency for International Development and oppose DOGE, an unvetted, unelected band of Elon Musk’s employees, from ransacking the critical agency. |

While President Trump's policies threaten to choke off engagement abroad, strengthening ties with European allies has never been more important.
As the Vice Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, it was an honor to meet with Baltic Foreign Ministers Margus Tsahkna of Estonia, Baiba Braže of Latvia, and Kęstutis Budrys of Lithuania to discuss the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's collective responsibility to defeat Russian President Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine. |

Started under former President George W. Bush, The United States President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is a program with widespread bipartisan support that has saved millions of lives through the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
A pause on PEPFAR — even for a day — will have deadly results.
My colleagues and I are calling on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to restore funding for this critical global health program immediately. |

Rides on RIPTA are not quite like they were when I used to ride the #99. Now in Congress, I am working to invest in public transit to grow our economy, connect our community, and shrink our climate footprint.
Thank you Rhodies In Transit and Grow Smart RI for inviting me to talk transit on the R-Line. |

During Black History Month, Amo Honors America’s First Racially Integrated Military Unit
Congressman Amo reintroduces legislation to recognize the First Rhode Island Regiment by posthumously awarding its members with the Congressional Gold Medal.
This week, in honor of Black History Month, I reintroduced bipartisan legislation with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to recognize America’s first integrated military unit — the First Rhode Island Regiment — by posthumously awarding its members the Congressional Gold Medal. The bill would bestow this long-overdue honor on brave Revolutionary War soldiers from Rhode Island who came together in a multiracial coalition to fight for America’s independence.
The Congressional Gold Medal was established by the Continental Congress in 1776, just two years before America’s first integrated unit — the First Rhode Island Regiment — valiantly fought for our country’s independence.
This bill is a long-overdue recognition for the contributions of a trailblazing regiment that demonstrated valor on the battlefield and upheld our nation’s values of equality and inclusion. I express my deep gratitude for these brave individuals who served our nation and the sacrifices made by all our men and women in uniform who protect our freedom.
