Great Plains Institute
Recruiting for an Illinois Brightfield Community Cohort- Five communities sought for participation
Does your community have a landfill, brownfield, or contaminated/degraded land that would be a good site for solar development? A brightfield refers to a brownfield site, a site with known or perceived contamination from a previous use, that has been redeveloped into a renewable energy project, like solar!
The Great Plains Institute (GPI) is forming a Brightfield Community Cohort to help communities explore potential solar projects on degraded lands, like landfills, brownfields, and abandoned mine lands. GPI welcomes participants at any stage of the process of understanding, assessing, and developing clean energy projects that benefit the community. The cohort will be a collaborative, peer-learning space. GPI will help participants understand and select the appropriate technical assistance options and funding opportunities for their potential brightfield project.
The cohort is expected to meet virtually, approximately monthly for 12 months. GPI hosted three virtual workshops last year about Solar Development on Brownfields and Mined Lands in Illinois. You can view recordings of those three workshops here. If you are interested in learning about the community cohort, please contact Monika Vadali at [email protected].

Illinois State Fire Marshal
Fire Equipment Exchange
Pursuant to Section 2.5 of the State Fire Marshal Act (20 ILCS 2905/2.5), the Office of the State Fire Marshal is directed to create and maintain an equipment exchange program under which fire departments, fire protection districts, and township fire departments can donate or sell equipment to, trade equipment with, or buy equipment from each other. This Fire Equipment Exchange Program website allows fire departments, fire protection districts, and township fire departments to post information and photographs about needed equipment and equipment available for trade, donation, or sale using the same login credentials as their PSE Web Portal (illinois.gov) account.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal maintains the Fire Equipment Exchange Program website, but transactions for equipment donated, traded, or sold are between the two parties. While the Office of the State Fire Marshal promotes the equipment exchange program as required by the State Fire Marshal Act, the Office of the State Fire Marshal is not a broker, underwriter, guarantor, or otherwise involved in any transactions that are completed via the equipment exchange program.
Have a good weekend,
Leah Bohlmann
