Did you watch the shenanigans that happened in the House of Representatives yesterday? If not, here's a quick summary: A bill to extend the grocery tax credit (no, this is NOT a grocery tax repeal) has been moving through the House. It went through the proper channels but suddenly, without being on the calendar, came to the floor of the House under a different bill name and was presented to the House by suspending the rules. Why? It's hard to say, but sometimes things like this are done to keep any opposition from having time to prepare. Due to the sudden springing of this bill, Representative Kent Marmon (R -District 11) asked for the bill to be read in full. This typically allows lawmakers to:
a. Know what is actually in the bill b. Allow those of us watching to know what is in the bill c. Allow lawmakers to prepare a statement if need be After the reading, Kent apologized to the members and explained his reasoning. He also made a motion to send the bill to the amending order so that members could amend it for a full grocery tax repeal instead.
Here's a quick video of that and the subsequent vote that took place on his motion. https://www.facebook.com/stopidahorinos/videos/613488251613090 |
