Welcome to our Team Tillis newsletter, where we discuss what Thom has been up to from the campaign trail to Capitol Hill, and everything in between! |
| | Friend, From Washington, D.C. to North Carolina—Thom had a busy week. There were confirmation hearings to attend and legislative bills to advance, all in an effort to build on the momentum we’ve felt since Inauguration Day. But Thom never misses an opportunity to visit his constituents, especially those who are still working to rebuild their communities and lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. There are challenges ahead, but the impending reopening of I-40 in Haywood County is a step in the right direction, and Thom will continue to advocate for more funding and resources in Western North Carolina. As we kick off Presidents Day weekend, we’re given the opportunity to reflect on the leaders who have shaped our great nation—and the values that bring us together. As President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction,” which is why it’s up to all of us to preserve it! -Team Tillis |
Confirmations Continue: RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard ✔️
This week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially took the reins as Secretary of Health and Human Services and Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. In total, 16 cabinet picks are on the books—and Thom won’t stop until we confirm all of President Trump’s nominees. |
| These confirmations are an important first step as we work toward undoing the mess Biden left behind. President Trump has assembled a team of bold, America-First leaders, and we are confident that they will be integral to securing our borders, improving the economy, and cutting the government waste that is rampant here in Washington. Every confirmation brings us closer to restoring strong, decisive leadership in every corner of the federal government. Let’s keep pushing until we cross the finish line! |
On Notice: Sanctuary Cities
Thom continues to be a fierce advocate for the dismantling of sanctuary cities, counties, and states. Now that President Trump is in office, the law of the land is clear: state and local law enforcement who don’t carry out the current immigration policies must be held accountable. Unfortunately, people like Mecklenburg County Sheriff, Garry McFadden, think they’re above the law. Last month, an illegal immigrant in Charlotte was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, and domestic violence. But in an outrageous turn of events, Sheriff McFadden’s office didn’t comply with ICE’s request to be notified before the criminal’s release. As Thom said on his X account: “The excuses are pathetic and the refusal to hand him and other violent criminals over to ICE is dangerous.” The safety of our communities comes first—and Thom will continue to push back against any officials trying to skirt immigration laws. It’s time to put an end to sanctuary cities once and for all. → Read more: Sen. Thom Tillis Files Bill to Allow Victims of Migrant Crime to Sue Sanctuary Cities (Breitbart)

Legislative Highlights: Thom leads resolution calling on NATO members to meet defense spending commitments for leadership roles
This week, Thom joined several other Senate Republicans to introduce a resolution urging our NATO allies to meet—and ultimately exceed—their required defense spending commitments. Given the increased aggression from Russia in Ukraine, provocations from China, and other rising threats, it has become clear that the existing 2% commitment is the bare minimum. We must aim for higher targets, such as the proposed 5% from President Trump, to bolster and strengthen NATO. A stronger NATO will lead to a safer world, which is why our allies must step up! → Read more: Senator Thom Tillis Leads GOP Resolution Urging NATO Allies to Boost Defense Spending Ahead of The Hague Summit (Hoodline) |
