John,
Americans deserve to know that government officials are working for people like you and me, not foreign adversaries, and that our systems are protected from foreign threats.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has now announced that she plans to look the other way on foreign influence over American government officials.
That means letting up on enforcing the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires lobbyists to publicly disclose their work on behalf of foreign clients, and disbanding the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force1 — while the Department of Homeland Security pauses their efforts to shore up our election systems against disinformation.2
Put these all together and you have a recipe for Russia, or China, or Iran to meddle in our government. We need your help to stop that.
These decisions hurt our national security and open up the floodgates to foreign adversaries to sow discord and division in our elections.
Here’s the good news: There are clear steps that Congress can take under the Constitution to protect our national security and our democracy.
Stopping foreign malign actors from meddling in our democracy is not a partisan issue.
Over the years we’ve seen foreign adversaries — like Russia during the 2016 election — work to sow chaos among the American people, but elected leaders from both parties worked together to build infrastructure to defend our democracy — infrastructure that’s now being rolled back. We need them to do the same now before we risk future national security crises.
Members of Congress need to publicly stand up and support efforts to combat foreign interference and protect us from foreign adversaries looking to wreak havoc on our democracy. Tell Congress to do its job.
Thanks for standing with us,
