Hello John,
The political challenges we face right now are unlike anything I’ve encountered in my career. Granted, it’s a brief career compared to the likes of James Carville, who the establishment seems to love, no matter how often he goes on television and criticizes them. It’s ironic, really, but if you dwell on it, you’ll just get a headache and feel confused or discouraged—best to leave that one alone.
Still, there are some things we can’t ignore, no matter how much we wish we could. Our country is being torn apart, one department at a time. Have you noticed? Not a single meaningful bill is being proposed by the Republican-controlled Congress. It’s as if they’ve forgotten how the government is supposed to work. The only bill they’re floating is a massive tax cut for the people who least need it. This isn’t a minor tax cut
—it’s a staggering $3.5 trillion giveaway. Naturally, people ask, “How would that even work? Don’t we need that money?” Of course, we do. Their plan is to gut Medicare, Social Security, the Department of Education, and countless other vital institutions that Americans rely on to survive. The greed is endless and ruthless.
Trump and his allies have shown complete disdain for the Constitution and the rule of law. As a result, the courts are working overtime to keep up with the flood of lawsuits from across the country. We aren’t backing down. We fully understand the gravity of this moment. While we don’t currently control any branch of government, we have the law—and the people—on our side. America will not go down without a fight. Now is the time for all of us to renew our commitment to saving our country.
The things we take for granted are being stripped away. But I believe that this period of despair can become the force that unites us as Americans. Republicans, Democrats, Independents—we all want the same basic things: to provide for our families and to live better lives. The stress our government is putting on us is not what any of us signed up for. Donald Trump’s wild, outlandish rhetoric might make for good reality television, but it’s disastrous for diplomacy. World leaders may show him respect to his face because he controls the most powerful military in history, but behind his back, we know what they think of him. It’s the same thing you and I think. He is the epitome of white privilege, yet somehow, he genuinely believes his accomplishments are based on merit. Narcissism knows no bounds with this man—and yet, here we are.
My goal isn’t to complain to you. It’s to raise awareness, to bring attention to what’s happening, and to share how we’re fighting back—and how you can join us. Make no mistake: this is a fight. It’s a fight for the soul of this nation. Our country has survived two world wars, 9/11, a Great Depression, a Great Recession, COVID, and we will survive Trump, too. But it’s going to take all of us, doing everything we can, playing our roles to the fullest.
