Dear John:

Our hearts are heavy with anger and sorrow at the profound loss of Black lives in our country. The murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers is the latest in an endless series of horrific police killings of Black people. Police violence against the backdrop of a pandemic–hitting the Black community harder than any other community as a result of the racial inequity that pervades all our society–has inspired thousands to the streets to demand justice.

Here’s what we want you to know: you are not alone, and you are not powerless. There are actions you can take right now to push back against this wave of hatred and violence. One of the most important things you can do right now is to donate to these Minneapolis-area organizations who are at the center of the work to deliver justice for George Floyd:

Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha, a worker-led organization where workers organize, educate and empower each other to fight for a voice in their workplaces and in their communities.
Northstar Health Collective, a group building radical health care in Minnesota and which works to create safe and healthy events.
Women for Political Change, a nonprofit holistically investing in the leadership and political power of young women and trans & non-binary individuals throughout Minnesota.

These organizations need our support to continue their critical work. Donating will put resources in the hands of local organizers and people directly affected by this crisis.
