John, it was about 4a.m. when I got a call from West Palm Beach paramedics.
After receiving a call from my mother's smart watch, they rushed to her apartment and found her on the floor. She fell and broke her hip.
It was one of the scariest moments of my life — I remember staying close as my mother went through surgery, hospitalization and rehabilitation.
This happened a few years ago, but what really sticks out to me now in 2025 is the endless amount of medical bills she received, and how she wouldn't have been able to afford paying them back without Medicare.
And that part of the story isn't unique to her. In Palm Beach County alone, over 350,000 people rely on Medicare to receive the healthcare they need.
But the Trump Administration has made it clear that they do not care.
This was made even clearer when Donald Trump's wealthiest donor — and the public face of the Department of Government Efficiency — said that programs like Medicare were the "big one to eliminate".
MAGA extremists are working to push their pro-billionaire agenda through Congress, and I refuse to stand by as they put our most vulnerable populations at risk.
My colleagues in the House and I are doing all we can to combat these dangerous decisions, but we're looking for folks like you to help us send them a clear message.
My team and I put together this petition to show the GOP that we're not going to stand for their wrongdoing. Will you add your name to the list of folks who recognize how essential programs like Medicare are? [[link removed]]
