Team,

For the first time ever , 16 and 17-year-olds will have the chance to vote in Newark school board elections this April!

This is something that we’ve been pushing for — and thanks to the hard work of student leaders, advocates, and folks like you, we got it across the finish line.

Youth voting is long past due.

Back in October, I went to Hoboken High School to speak with an AP U.S. Government and Politics class. Take it from me — the students I met with were sharp and thoughtful, and they more than proved that they deserve to have a say in their own futures.

Allowing students to vote for the folks who make decisions about their education isn’t just smart policy. It’s also common sense — plus, it will start getting our youngest voters engaged in the civic process and develop the habit of voting ahead of their 18th birthday.

I am constantly amazed by New Jersey’s young people, and I am thrilled that young adults in Newark will finally have the opportunity to participate in their upcoming school board election. Now, I’m focused on getting as many young people as possible to the polls.

In the lead-up to the April elections, I’ll be working around the clock to set up voter registration drives and increase youth voter turnout. So if you can, folks, please chip in to support these efforts >> [[link removed]]
