[link removed] [[link removed]] Hi, friend,

I wanted to check in because I’m sure that, like me, you’ve been devastated by the news of recent ICE raids across the country.

Especially because of the danger they pose for our cross-border region and the families that make our communities special.

These raids are designed to incite fear in our communities and bully our residents into ignoring blatant attacks on their neighbors and our rights.

These raids are motivated by fear.
By hatred.
By ignorance.

And it breaks my heart to watch our communities devastated by those sworn to protect us.

From refugees to workers who commute across the border for their jobs, immigrants are a vital part of San Diego’s social fabric. We have the busiest land border in the world, with integrated families and economies because these unified communities predate the governments now enforcing division.

San Diego is also a place of resettlement and welcome for those needing refuge in harsher parts of the world. South and Central Americans fleeing violence. Christian Iraqis fleeing persecution. Vietnamese families fleeing war. Immigrants of the Black diaspora making their lives and families stronger with the American Dream.

And these attacks disproportionately impact immigrants of color, who are overrepresented relative to their population in our detention and deportation centers.

It is devastating to witness federal officers detain, degrade, and deport the people who make our home the wonderful place it is. It is devastating to watch our most vulnerable neighbors pay the price of hatred.

But San Diegans are resilient.

Through all of this, watching our community come together to support the most vulnerable gives me hope.

From San Diegans learning and teaching their rights to activists organizing to protect their neighbors from ICE raids, I am proud to see San Diegans from all walks of life standing tall against these divisive and distracting attacks.

We’ve been through this before, and we know what we need to do to stand up to these hateful policies.

Last year, I was proud to vote against using our County’s limited resources on deportations. As your Supervisor, I remain committed to protecting all San Diegans.

In solidarity always,

Monica
