Economic Democracy Weekly

In today’s Economic Democracy Weekly, we feature stories on finance justice and how advocates can organize to move more resources to benefit communities. We begin with a story on how Detroit and Philadelphia community groups organize to stave off megaprojects and, in turn, free up resources to meet community needs. We follow that with a story from Chile, where a nonprofit and Mapuche communities are teaming up to create a local Indigenous-based system of community finance. That’s followed by a story of how a system of credit and savings known as susu enables women in Ghana to achieve similar ends. Lastly, we offer a webinar clip from a speaker who discusses how to rematriate finance to benefit Native communities.
